Closet Curio

For NaPoWriMo, one prompt was to write  a poem about a forgotten technology.  Over the weekend I found a tiny answering machine tape.  Who knows what's on it?!

Covid cleaning
Digging through drawers
Rearranging relics
Answering-machine audiotape
Lilliputian legend
Unobtainable understanding

Midnight Disturbance

Residential neighborhood
But still, "the city"
Means houseless wanderers rummage
Through household scraps and garbage

My bedroom door is closed
Attempting uninterrupted rest
At the bottom is a gap
Wide enough for cats paws
Scratching, quizzically asking for admittance
A pause.......
and an attempt anew.

Adult children wander the house
No subtlety in opening and closing rooms
Or cabinets
Foraging for late night bowls of cereal

Home Office

Home office
Cobbled together
Brand new technology!
Old wooden school desk
Chipped and carved
Over time
Small cabinet
Handmade in high school
By my son
Tight space
Arranged daily
Familiar coffee
and water cups
Help
With feeling normal.

Rubber Band

All reaching out
In four directions
Straining to be ourselves

In an instant
We are snapped back
Bound together

I Know You Are Here

NaPoWriMo 2020

With the conjunction of NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month), COVID deaths, and a random metaphor generator, here is what was penned today.

You are now joined
To the larger fabric
Harder to see your filament
But still I know you are there

Your unique tincture
Now incorporated into the solution
Harder to perceive your zest
But still I know you are there

Your vibration is now in sync
With the sprawling composition
Harder to distinguish your melody
But still I know you are there

You are the eggshell against the snow
How will I recognize you?
By sight, sound, touch?
Still, I know you are here.
